If you are reading this page then the chances are that you are currently submitting paper instructions to customers banks and you have realised that there may be a better way of working. It may be that you are looking to implement Paperless Direct Debit and you realise that you will need to go through an AUDDIS migration first, or at least at the same time.

What is AUDDIS migration?

To keep it simple AUDDIS migration means moving your process of setting up new Direct Debit Instructions via paper to setting them up electronically via Bacs.

There are two main options open to any organisation that are looking to do this and each should be carefully considered before diving in with both feet.

You can either move all of your existing Direct Debit Instructions over to become AUDDIS instructions by migrating your Service User Number

Or

You can set up a new Service User Number which is already enabled to submit via AUDDIS.

There are pros and cons to each method and this is where it becomes important to understand the options in more detail. AUDDIS migration (moving your existing Service User Number over) will take a little longer than simply setting up an additional SUN. The process of moving your existing SUN to AUDDIS will require you to go through a number of steps, each of which it is important that you get right.

There are four key phases of Migration:-

Application

This requires you to fill out some application forms with your sponsoring bank. At first glance they can be a little tricky to understand and know what answers you need to put in place. You will need to make some decisions over software, reference numbers, identity checking before you can accurately complete these.

Preparation

In this phase you will need to ensure that you are able to get your systems and processes ready for AUDDIS. This may involve upgrading or procuring additional software, depending on your current set up.

Testing

In order to demonstrate to Bacs and to your sponsoring bank that you are able to correctly submit AUDDIS files, you will be asked to submit some dummy files whilst your SUN is set to test status. The purpose of this is to make sure that things go smoothly when you eventually go live. You will need to successfully   complete this phase before your Go Live date.

Go Live

When everything has been put in place and double checked, you will need to go through the final process of Migrating your existing Direct Debit Instructions using the 0S transaction code (See AUDDIS transaction codes). This will convert your existing Direct Debit Instructions to AUDDIS. You will no longer be able to submit manual (paper) instructions once your Service User Number has been migrated.

Timescales

You should allow a month to obtain a new Service User Number if you are looking to add a new SUN for AUDDIS. If you are looking to migrate your existing SUN then 4 months is suggested as a likely timescale.
