If your organisation is looking to introduce Paperless Direct Debit then you need to already submit new Direct Debit Instructions via AUDDIS. If you are still sending paper instructions to the bank then you will need to undergo what is know as a AUDDIS migration, though this can be carried out at the same time as the transition to Paperless Direct Debit.

If you are already submitting your new Instructions via an electronic file then good news, you are halfway there already. The basic steps to get Paperless Direct Debit up and running are as follows:-

1. Contact your sponsoring bank and ask for the Paperless Direct Debit application forms to be sent to you

2. Complete the forms and return them to your sponsor

3. The bank will then assess your application and when they are happy that you meet all the relevant requirements* they can give their authority for you to begin collecting Direct Debits using paperless sign up.

*As part of the approval process you will need to complete a basic test via Bacs of your understanding of the rules and processes involved. The test is not overly complicated however ensuring that all your employees involved in the process are suitably trained and prepared to deal with customer enquiries will certainly help to make your implementation smoother and more successful.

You will need to submit all the documents, web sign up screens, scripts etc. to the bank for approval before you are able to use them.

You will need specific permission from the sponsoring bank to use different channels for paperless. i.e. If you have been approved to use telephone sign up then you will need to also get permission to use internet sign up. You do not need to complete a separate application form for each channel, though you will need to complete a separate application form for each service user number that you wish to use.

Your bank will want to go through a number of vetting checks that include technical and financial checks. You may also be required to execute a new indemnity if the original one was signed earlier than 2004.
